Fortunately, having two years since the initial launch has allowed Obsidian to smooth out most of the problems that plagued the PC release, and I didn’t notice any major issues during my time with Pillars on my PS4. Obsidian has continued that tradition in its more recent games, and this sometimes causes glitches or other problems as unforeseen variables bump up against one another. Western RPGs from the era Pillars of Eternity is emulating focused on player agency, and whenever there was a choice between streamlining gameplay or giving freedom to the player, the latter option was usually given more weight. The level cap is raised to 16, and several new maps and enemy types are made available as well. The console version adds both White March expansions to the base game, providing hours more story content as well as a pair of new recruitable companions. In general, it's just a much superior experience.Pillars of Eternity‘s lore and gameplay are largely unchanged from the PC, and I’d highly recommend reading our review of that version for detailed information on story, graphics, and how the game plays. For one, the loading times are dramatically shorter, and you can increase the resolution further. The game itself is amazing, quite possibly one of the best I've ever played, but if you have a powerful gaming PC, just get it on that. It's a shame that Pillars of Eternity II isn't a great port. That being said, this is very much a game for a certain type of player, and it’s unlikely to convert anyone who. You run into one even when you're exploring the same building! I can't imagine how slow it is on the base Xbox One's built-in hard drive or an external hard drive. The lore is well written, and the story it describes is deep, mature and interesting. I installed Pillars of Eternity II on an external solid-state drive and the loading screens were still unbearable. There are also lengthy loading screens whenever you enter a new area that detract from immersion. One of the truly beautiful things about gaming is the freedom that developers now have to source funding and to create the kind of projects they’re truly. In my opinion, the issue appears to be a lack of optimization rather than a technical limitation of the console. It's unclear why this game couldn't hit a consistent 60 FPS on Xbox One X. Pillars of Eternity II is a complex game mechanically, but its visuals are definitely not that. Let's hope that just like A Bard's Tale IV: Barrows Deep, the game receives an Xbox One X patch after launch. Pillars of Eternity falls into that PC RPG realm: one which will reward patience, but might not be. It's odd that Obsidian Entertainment – an Xbox Game Studios team – and their partners at Grip Digital, didn't put in more effort to improve it for Microsoft's latest console. The RPG genre has somewhat split into different styles. The performance is also patchy depending on the area you're in and seems to be locked to 30 frames per second (FPS). The resolution appears to be 1080p and the textures are quite blurry at times. Pillars of Eternity II doesn't feature any Xbox One X enhancements. Pillars of Eternity, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Paradox Interactive, is an isometric RPG in the same vain as classic Fallout and Diablo titles.
